THE RAVAGERS
February 9 - March 3, 2018
at The X Lab at Can Can Wonderland 755 Prior Ave N, Saint Paul, MN 55104 Written by Laura Leffler and Blake E. Bolan Directed by Hannah K. Holman Created with Umbrella Collective and the ensembles 50 daughters. 50 sons. And a wedding night to remember. Loosely based on the ancient Greek play THE SUPPLIANTS by Aeschylus, THE RAVAGERS explores what happens when one daughter discovers herself at the precipice between obedience and resistance. This site-specific production weaves together themes of family strength and political power with the true stories of forbidden love under oppressive regimes. Lavender Magazine called the 2011 production, “ingenious and hauntingly evocative.” The X Lab at Can Can Wonderland is right down the hall from Can Can Wonderland in the basement of the American Can Building. Once you find the entrance to Can Can Wonderland, you'll be directed to the X Lab by a trail of Xs on the floor! Plan a little extra time to find your way (and have a drink at Can Can before the show!) More information about parking, accessibility, and location below. Pay-What-You-Want tickets are available at the door for every performance, as space allows.
ASL/Deaf Interpretation will be offered at the February 23 and March 1 performances by Deaf and hearing interpretation team of Asher Edes, Ico Ahyicodae, and Robyn Lehmann-Doane, in consultation with Ron Harmount, Jr. As part of Umbrella Collective's ongoing "Accessibility as an Attitude" initiative, sign language users are invited to join the interpretation team and Umbrella Collective's creative leadership for a brief conversation following performances on February 23 and March 1. CONTENT WARNING: The Ravagers explores complicated themes of manipulation, cults, and political power. The production also contains simulated acts of violence and sex. Recommended for audiences 16+. Audiences will be invited to move about the space for a brief series of scenes following intermission. Most of the performance is seated. Moving about the space during these scenes is not required, but encouraged, if possible.
