THE RAVAGERS

February 9 - March 3, 2018

at The X Lab at Can Can Wonderland
755 Prior Ave N, Saint Paul, MN 55104

Written by Laura Leffler and Blake E. Bolan
Directed by Hannah K. Holman
Created with Umbrella Collective and the ensembles

50 daughters. 50 sons. And a wedding night to remember.

Loosely based on the ancient Greek play THE SUPPLIANTS by Aeschylus, THE RAVAGERS explores what happens when one daughter discovers herself at the precipice between obedience and resistance. This site-specific production weaves together themes of family strength and political power with the true stories of forbidden love under oppressive regimes. Lavender Magazine called the 2011 production, “ingenious and hauntingly evocative.”

The X Lab at Can Can Wonderland is right down the hall from Can Can Wonderland in the basement of the American Can Building. Once you find the entrance to Can Can Wonderland, you'll be directed to the X Lab by a trail of Xs on the floor! Plan a little extra time to find your way (and have a drink at Can Can before the show!) More information about parking, accessibility, and location below.
Pay-What-You-Want tickets are available at the door for every performance, as space allows.

ASL/Deaf Interpretation will be offered at the February 23 and March 1 performances by Deaf and hearing interpretation team of Asher Edes, Ico Ahyicodae, and Robyn Lehmann-Doane, in consultation with Ron Harmount, Jr.

As part of Umbrella Collective's ongoing "Accessibility as an Attitude" initiative, sign language users are invited to join the interpretation team and Umbrella Collective's creative leadership for a brief conversation following performances on February 23 and March 1.

CONTENT WARNING: The Ravagers explores complicated themes of manipulation, cults, and political power. The production also contains simulated acts of violence and sex. Recommended for audiences 16+.

Audiences will be invited to move about the space for a brief series of scenes following intermission. Most of the performance is seated. Moving about the space during these scenes is not required, but encouraged, if possible.

HOW TO GET THERE

Can Can Wonderland is nestled perfectly between Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood — in the heart of the Creative Enterprise Zone.

Parking galore! There are many parking options available near Can Can Wonderland:
  1. Smokestack parking lot (above ground and below ground through automated door) located right near the entrance of Black Stack Brewery.
  2. Higher Ground parking lot (above ground) - located just north of the smokestack parking lot.
  3. Water tower parking lot (above ground) located just south of Black Stack Brewery/smokestack parking lot on Prior Avenue
  4. Across the street lot (above ground) located on the east side of Prior Avenue, across the street from the water tower parking lot.
  5. Street parking on Prior Avenue and nearby neighborhoods (watch out for snow emergency parking restrictions when applicable!)

One great place. Three amazing ways in. The building we are in is enormous, and there are three entrances that will get you to our location in the building:
  1. Drive or walk into the smokestack parking lot and park anywhere. Enter through the super-secret red door to the left of BlackStack Brewery. Please note that while this is an ADA entrance for Blackstack Brewery, it is not an ADA entrance for our location. However, there are two more entrances that both ARE ADA accessible;
  2. ADA entrance #1: drive into the smokestack parking lot and pull in to the end of the lot to see the entrance to the underground parking lot on your left. Park anywhere underground, and you can easily access our space.
  3. ADA entrance #2: drive into the water tower parking lot, park anywhere, and enter the building. A short ramp will lead you to a passenger elevator. Take the elevator down one level (to basement level), and follow the winding hallway to our space.

More information available on Can Can Wonderland's website.

*Please note that Metro Mobility will not fit down the ramp to the underground lot so the Water Tower parking lot is the best option for Metro Mobility.
