Talking about why you want to produce a particular piece of art can be a difficult thing. It varies by degrees, of course. Maybe you’re drawn to a particular element, like the music. Maybe you know it will be a popular choice that will bring in the most patrons. Maybe it speaks to something that’s happening in the news. Or maybe it’s something brand new. Something that clawed its way up your intestines, past your stomach and lungs and heart and up your throat until it’s peering through your lips waiting for the right moment to reveal itself, naked and raw. A barely formed welp that you hold out to a group of friends and colleagues for their thoughts and opinions, secretly hoping that they don’t point out that it has your eyes or nose. Because it has more of you in it than you want to admit. Because it scares you. That’s why I wanted to produce Alfie.

​Announcing the ensemble for our upcoming production of JUNE! *swoon* If you attended the workshop presentations in July 2014, you'll notice a bunch of brand new characters (as well as some familiar faces!). These women are all so incredible and smart and talented, we can't wait to get in a room with them to dig into the story, ask a lot of questions, and make some new work.

As we continue to grow and change and learn and adapt on our journey to live the best artistic lives we can, Savage Umbrella is thrilled to announce an expansion of our company.

We simultaneously felt the need to spread and reach artistically, and at the same time, hone and focus our core administration and support systems. I couldn't be more excited for both of these opportunities; it feels like refinement and precision paired with wild experimentation and abandon. The juxtaposition is thrilling.

We introduce our new(ish) Core Company: members who have dedicated time, talent, and focus to the development of Savage Umbrella's methods for years. These Core Company Members will continue with Savage Umbrella in the areas of administration, artistic development, and leadership: Russ Dugger, Heidi Jedlicka Halvarson, Hannah K. Holman, Laura Leffler-McCabe, and Carl Atiya Swanson.
