A Little JUNE in September by Russ

With auditions, fundraisers and horror festivals, the SU Crew hasn’t really gotten a break from all the excitement. Too bad! We’re going have find something in our collective emotions to kick to the curb so we can make room for more, cuz this week we’re getting pumped for the 2016 Ivey Awards! And for an extra special reason.

​Did you know this year we’ll get to enjoy some of our own fantastically talented friends and Savage Umbrella company members as they perform a selected scene for the wonderfully moving show JUNE? We're so excited! It's not often you get to revisit such a powerful project. So for this special little Ivey's Day blog post we thought we'd check in with some of the performers on how they feel about reconnecting with their characters and each other.

Allison Witham:

"I'm very thankful to get back in the room with these ladies and to share a snippet of a story I think is so important and doesn't get told often."











Emily Dussault:

"Making JUNE was a process that embodied what I love about Savage Umbrella: I brought my heart and mind to the room every night, and so did all my (brilliant) collaborators. We ended up with a story that on paper, was about being a lesbian in the 1950s, but was also about being a human in this world-- scary, exciting, funny, sexy, painful and beautiful. I'm so proud and thrilled to be able to show a sliver of it to the Ivey's audience on Monday."

"My favorite part of June was the way distinct characters played within and off of the group identity we created. It feels super sweet to have a chance to share that group with the Ivey's audience."

We look forward to seeing and reconnecting with all our friends and Comrades-in-Art tonight! And if that's not enough, don't forget that in one week we'll be hosting our annual fundraiser at SPACE, and it's going to be on BIG PARTY! One way or another we'll be sure to see you under the umbrella ;)
