For the resident companies, ARTshare is all about sharing. We share our rehearsal and performance time, our knowledge and special skills, and we even share our incredible muscle-power to move set pieces and other OMG-why-are-these-so-heavy things. Because seriously, together really is better than alone… especially when it comes to heavy things! We’ve been so lucky to share our March and April ARTshare slot with two very energetic companies: Blue Water Theatre and Main Street School of Performing Arts. Blue Water Theatre has been around since 2007 with the mission of building and sustaining a theatre community for young actors in Wayzata, MN. They have produced more than 30 productions over the past 8 years. Now that’s impressive. For ARTshare, Blue Water whipped up something a little different than their usual song and dance. Kenneth Lonergan’s THIS IS OUR YOUTH digs into some difficult conversations and twisted relationships. It’s wonderful to see these young artists bearing their souls on the stage. Grab a ticket for their remaining performances: April 9, 10, 16, 19 Main Street School of Performing Arts is an arts-focused public charter school for grades 9 through 12 in the heart of Hopkins, MN. These guys definitely have spunk, and we’re so glad we have a chance to absorb some of their youthful energy (that’s how that works, right?!). Their ARTshare show—HOLLYWOODLAND—features current students and recent alumni in a collaborative piece of theater, dance, and music. And if you know Savage Umbrella, you know we love some good collaboratin’!
Grab a ticket for their remaining performances: April 11, 12, 14, 17 We’re also looking forward to experiencing the magic that upcoming ARTshare resident companies are whipping up in May: the inimitable Live Action Set will be bringing THE HALF LIFE to life (and I’m SO into it); Black Label Movement’s THE ILLUMINATION is sure to be a visual and aural delight (poetry, dance, music, MAGIC!), and I simply can’t wait to see Theatre Forever’s female-centric comedy GOOD JOB HORSES (there’s hot lava?! YAASSS). So. Much. New. Work. I’m just SO EXCITED! Speaking of new work, you only have three more chances to experience the beautiful tragedy that is THESE ARE THE MEN: April 7, 8, 15, 18. Get your tickets! Also, we’re finally throwing a SPACE warming party! Join us on Friday, April 24 for drinks, snacks, music, and conversation. We can’t wait to show you our new home. Kthanksbye!
