Today is Company Member Rachel Nelson's birthday and she's far away and we miss her a lot and we wrote some things about her and if you couldn't tell we really really love her. “When a person you only recently met agrees to walk onto a frozen lake in January wearing a short dress and no coat, gloves, scarf or winter wear of any kind - just so you can make an experimental video about fairy tale princesses. Well. That's obviously the basis for a lasting friendship. It doesn't hurt of course that she's also super smart, super sentimental, unfailingly funny, and that kind of beautiful that is both quirky and breath-taking. Plus I kinda want her wardrobe.” - Laura
“Rachel is constantly giving warmth and always thinking critically. If Rachel were a verb, it would mean: To Art, To Words, To Move, To Play, To Value, To Warm. As a creator, collaborator, and director she naturally makes space where anyone can feel comfortable talking about bodies, rules, society, connection, and creativity. Constantly thoughtful, always real. If she were a color, it'd be deep red and warm brown. So basically ... We love Rachel.” - Amber “Years ago--many years ago, in fact--Paul Bunyan, the Easter Bunny, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ryan Gosling, and Bjork engaged in a passionate night of love-making. Nine months later, Rachel Nelson was born, and the world was made a better place. My first interaction with Rachel was creating a scene wherein we lost our virginity to each other and then she killed me. It's been downhill ever since.” - Tanner “Rachel is an incredible writer and talented artist. She is intuitive, always asking questions and thinking outside the box. She strives for excellence in herself and others, and she is always willing to lend an extra hand and try new crazy things!” - Christina “Rachel is the epitome of the funny, intelligent, self-reliant, and yet obviously human woman that so many wish they could figure out how to be. Seeing her is always an inspiration.” - Candy “Rachel has a uniquely inquisitive mind, a beautiful way with words (and stage directions!), and she brings her creative spirit to everything she does. I want to be just like her when I grow up.” - Hannah “Rachel is a fiesty ball of passion. I love her exuberance and wild creativity.” - Mason “Rachel has always reminded me of one of the elves from The Lord of the Rings. Maybe it's the certain woodland grace that she has, or her giving nature or ingenuity, or whatever else her magic is, because it's there. She's not really Galadriel (too blonde) but she could totally be Arwen in a Savage Umbrella adaptation of LOTR. Man, I really want to see the new Hobbit movie. Happy Birthday, Rachel!” - Carl “Rachel is so poetically serious! Or seriously poetic. In either case I mean it in the best way. I am always blown away by the beautiful stream of thoughts that come out of her during discussions! She's somebody that keeps me on my toes.” - Russ “Rachel paints pictures and grows goosebumps with her magical words. She brings the impossible to life.” - Blake “Rachel is the type of person style articles are written about. Everything that she does is done artfully and it’s brilliant. Oh, and I like it when she’s funny” - Heidi Comments are closed.
