Hey there, Theatre-Creatures! We’ve spent the last two weeks kicking off rehearsals for our upcoming Fringe show--PENELOPE—in a mini-workshop with our cast, company, and other guests! Since its workshop in summer 2015, PENELOPE has changed juuust a bit in form, transforming from an indoor variety show to an outdoor BBQ party, so we thought it was apt to start setting the scene outside. Peter Heeringa, an ensemble member of Sandbox Theater and Dolan // Heeringa, joined us for our first rehearsal in Boom Island Park and led us in a incredible workshop on Moment Work and Viewpoints (basically, ways to make scenes and play! Thanks, Peter!). We then transitioned to Matthews Park for a good ol’ fashioned hangout and grill session. When the weather drove us inside the following rehearsals, we dove down into character building, moment creation, and short improvisations together. Now that we’ve caught a whiff of summer BBQs, delicious hot dogs, and just who this mysterious Penelope is, we’re back to the writing board. See you in August for PENELOPE at the Minnesota Fringe Festival!
