Welcome back Savage Umbrella ellas and fellas! This week our very own and very talented Lisa Marie Brimmer has some thoughts to share about transplanting creative control and why she's so excited to share our next workshop production: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY. - Russ The process of starting a new project is almost always the same: have a nagging idea, write something, read something, devise, rewrite, and repeat until you have something substantial enough to share with an audience. For INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, however, there has been an incredibly Meta process of mutation-invoking thought-share and co-inspiration. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY was originally a concept of Mason Mahoney's, intending to look at race and appropriation through a Science Fiction lens: A laboratory, a terminally ill scientist near fulfillment of their life's work hopes their legacy will live on in another's body. In erasing their narrative and identity and each gentle facet of exceptionalism and specialization that they carry, who will get credit? Who will survive the download? The idea of transplanting a show about transplanting came after abundant conversation, collaborative mindsets, and Mason's brave move to LA. After a DOWN DRAFT (Savage Umbrella creative exploration/play time) one Saturday in Northeast Minneapolis (lots of dancing and imagining and playing with self and body awareness) some truly depth defying conversations ensued at the Eagle Bolt and 19 Bar in Minneapolis. Mason and I sought core truths alongside our pints of Summit. We spoke broadly about the challenges of success, and the coordinative dangers of power, ego, and legacy. The Futurism rings true, thinking about where America will be in the years to come, how individuals function within that greater society and the impacts on our humanity. The impacts of our human flaws as they guide and shape the world we live in. As we exchange text messages, phone calls, and hand written cards I think that our working relationship has stretched and changed and responded to it's new parameters. Peace Power Progress - Lisa Come see how this ever-evolving work plays out: The year is 2066. Who's in charge? How is power maintained? In this vision of the post-revolution United States, Savage Umbrella unfolds the intersections of the self, the body, and the community in this new suspiciously free society. Through the lens of revolution and what could be scripture, INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY examines leadership, communal thought, and survival strategy as the connective tissue between zeitgeist ideas and social movements. How will you be remembered? How will you survive? INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY runs June 10 and July 1, 2016
